How it works

  • The fixed wiring is inspected and tested at least every five years, sooner if the last report says so.

  • Tenants get a copy within 28 days, a new tenant before moving in, the council within 7 days of asking.

  • Faults coded C1, C2 or FI (further investigation) are fixed within 28 days and confirmed in writing.

Do

  • Read the box on the front: "retest in 3 years" shortens your interval.
  • Diarise the remedial deadline on the day you get the report.
  • Keep the confirmation of any work with the report.

Do not

  • Treat a satisfactory report as the end: the copy is a separate duty with its own 28 days.
  • Assume £30,000: the fine rose to £40,000 per breach in 2025.
